I agree with the president`s decision, but not because God shows favoritism to Jews or to the state of Israel, which is not true! Christians who think that the modern state of Israel or Jewry in general are `the apple of God`s eye` and his `chosen people` need to stop listening to such false teachers as John Hagee and to read their New Testaments. While I support Israel and its fine prime minister and have been there myself, God does not show favoritism, as the apostles, including Peter and Paul, plainly state. Read Galatians 3 and 4!
How sad that Israelis and Jews (and many misguided Christians) do not recognize that Zechariah`s prophecies were FULFILLED two millennia ago. The restoration of Israel occurred at the first coming of Jesus the Christ, and his kingdom (`not of this world` but in the world`s most valuable real estate–the hearts of all in whom God`s will is done) was confirmed at his resurrection and at Pentecost. The New Testament plainly teaches that the true Zion/Jerusalem/Israel includes all of whatever background and ancestry who receive and continue to obey Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The true Israel/Zion, then, consists of only and all those who are in God`s church of the redeemed in Jesus Christ. No more, no fewer. Today is the day of salvation; when Jesus comes, that day of salvation will be over, and all who ever will have come to him will be saved, God`s church will be complete, and `all Israel` will have been saved.
No one rejecting Jesus Christ the Son of God is God`s chosen. All mankind are called to repentance and continuing, obedient faith in Jesus Christ. Only and all those who answer and continue in that calling are become his CHOSEN. This is the teaching of Christ`s apostles in the New Testament, but you will not find these truths in the false teachings of such as John Hagee and a host of others.
`Now, God made his promises to Abraham and to his descendant. The scripture does not use the plural “descendants,” meaning many people, but the singular “descendant,” meaning one person only, namely, Christ.`
